Lemon Drop Mocktails and Cocktails are delicious. Who doesn’t love a refreshing, zesty mocktail that will help you unwind after a long day? Especially one that’s gonna bring you into a joyful state of bliss without the alcohol? Well, we’ve got something for you: a version of a lemon drop mocktail featuring our delicious Lemon Lime Sessions social tonic.
What Is a Lemon Drop Cocktail?
You might know it as one of Oprah’s favorite cocktails featured in her show in 2006, but the lemon drop cocktail, also called a “variation of a vodka martini,” was actually created in the ’70s at Henry Africa’s bar in San Francisco by Norman Jay Hobday. This Vietnam veteran even legally changed his name to Henry Africa after the success of the cocktail.
Usually made with vodka and a good amount of lemon juice, the famous lemon drop cocktail is a refreshing, summery drink that is many people’s favorite. The tangy, zesty notes pair well with the sweetener of choice, especially when drinking from a glass with a rim decorated with sugar. The rest of the ingredients include triple sec and simple syrup, although many people like to come up with their own variations of the classic recipe.
Mocktails Are In, Cocktails Are Out
Mocktails are definitely trending for good reasons! The fast popularity of mocktails marks a grand cultural shift toward more health-conscious, low-sugar, and creative social beverages, making cocktails take a back seat.
Mixology has definitely become a unique craft, bringing a fresh take on mocktails, which made them more appealing than ever before. Bartenders are experimenting with unique flavor profiles, fresh ingredients, artisanal syrups, social tonics, and ingredients like adaptogens, herbs, and probiotics. These unique formulas help promote wellness while tasting amazing, and turn each mocktail into a feast for the senses.
Consequently, more and more people are embracing the #sobercurious lifestyle, cutting down on their alcohol consumption for physical and mental health. This is where mocktails come in as a delicious alternative without the downsides of alcohol. They also create a welcoming environment for everyone, including those who don’t drink alcohol for personal, cultural, or health reasons, so no one feels left out at social gatherings.
Oh, and the best part? You don’t need to worry about hangovers! Mocktails let you enjoy your evening and still feel amazing the next day.

Here’s what you need:
- Prep Time: 10 min
- Total Time: 10 min
- Serves: 2
- Calories: cca 60 calories per serving (depending on the sweetener of choice)
Ingredients:
- 2 oz fresh lemon juice (1-2 lemons)
- 1 Tbsp simple syrup ( you can also use 1 Tbsp honey or 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup for a healthier alternative)
- 1 can of our Lemon Lime Sessions social tonic
- Ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar (for rimming the glass, optional – however, you can also use coconut sugar for a lower-glycemic version)
- Lemon wheel, lemon zest, or slices (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Wash the lemons thoroughly and zest the skin. Set the zest aside and juice them until you get 2 full oz.
- Pour the simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup into two glasses (measure half a Tbsp for each) and fill them up equally with the Lemon Lime Sessions social tonic.
- Add the lemon juice and stir well.
- Add the ice cubes.
- Garnish the rims (if you want to) and enjoy! If you wish to decorate the rim with a granulated sweetener of choice, simply dip the rim of the glass in water and then dip it into a dish of the said sweetener.
This delicious mocktail is best served in a classic martini glass with a garnish of lemon zest or a lemon wedge or wheel, with the rim covered in granulated sweetener of choice. However, you can always add your own spin to it and serve it in whatever glass you’d like — just make sure it’s tall enough so you can add ice cubes.
When thinking food, a lemon drop mocktail pairs nicely with appetizers at the beginning of a social gathering (think hummus and crudites, shrimp ceviche, herbed scallops), or during a nice seafood dinner featuring all the best the ocean has to offer.
Final Thoughts
Mocktails have definitely graduated into sophisticated drinks of this new generation. Offering a healthier alternative to cocktails, they are just as socially conscious as they are wellness. Our take on a crowd’s favorite brings all the buzz without a hangover, tastes like the freshest lemon-lime combination, and can fit into even the most restrictive diets so you can enjoy it without any feelings of regret.
